Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese martial art and healing exercise that opens up the flow of “Qi” (life force energy) in the body to improve your overall wellbeing. Based on the Daoist principle of balancing Yin and Yang, Tai Chi brings you in harmony with natural forces, your surroundings, and yourself. People of all ages and abilities can practice Tai Chi. Benefits include: reduced back and arthritic pain; increased strength, balance, flexibility and coordination; better cardiovascular functioning; resistance to disease; and improved ability to relax, concentrate and reduce stress. Nurture your body, clear your mind, and rejuvenate your spirit.
Martha’s class at Unison provides step by step instruction in the Yang Style Long Form. A flowing sequence of 108 postures, this traditional tai chi form has been passed down through generations of Tai Chi Masters. It is largely practiced for health and fitness but retains the original martial arts applications. Weekly attendance is recommended because each class builds upon the previous one. Martha leads simple Qi Gong warm up exercises at the beginning of class which are designed to gently stretch the body and start opening up the channels of energy flow.
Cost: Per one-hour class: $10 Unison Members, $12 Non-Members
