Come witness an incredible evening of traditional and contemporary Native American music and dance dedicated to the continued recovery and healing of American Veterans. The featured piece “Silent Echoes of Time” depicts a Lenape Vietnam veteran dancing his journey of healing.
Witness traditional Native American dances as Louis Mofsie sings songs from the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Southwest and the Plains. Listen to the improvisations of Rob Mastrianni on the double flute and his virtuoso guitar playing. Hear original songs by singer songwriter Sherry Lee in collaboration with Matoaka Little Eagle, who majestically weaves in Native music with Sherry’s contemporary music and lyrics. Take in the powerful dance piece choreographed by Michael Taylor as he and Alan Shooting Star present “Silent Echoes of Time”, an original dance piece that combines traditional music and dance with modern music and dance. It tells of actual events experienced by a Lenape Vietnam Veteran (Alan) affected by PTSD. Alan, the main dancer, tells his story of retrieving downed pilots through authentic traditional dance as Native Americans have done for hundreds of years. A modern dancer represents his traumatized spirit-self struggling to rejoin him. The piece shows the journey of recognition, compassion, acceptance and healing. After reuniting with his spirit-self the choreography ends in a celebratory victory dance. This poignant piece honors veterans and shows the resilience of the human spirit on a healing journey.
The evening will be joyous, rich, & full of beauty.
