A documentary and Q & A discussion event to end child detention hosted by Grannies Respond/Abuelas Responden and Resisterhood. With musical performances by Resisterhood Choir and Beacon Choir and a closing conversation with Jo Salas of Ulster Immigrant Defense Network on further actions that can be taken to help the undocumented immigrants living in our own communities.
The 30-minute documentary “From Beacon to the Border” showcases the journey of the Grannies Respond/Abuelas Responden caravan which began in Beacon and ended in McAllen, Texas. In response to the news of child separation during the 2018 Zero Tolerance policy, a group of local outraged “Grannies” traveled to Texas to bring media attention to this atrocity. Today the “Grannies” continue to work to close child detention camps and to support asylum seekers, near the border, traveling across the country, and locally.
