Lauren\, owner and master stylist of The L Salon will teach you how to create these fun looks. She’ll demonstrate how to create braids such as the dutch\, the french\, and the fishtail. Then you’ll be able to practice on yourself or one another. All materials and supplies will be provided. Registration is $25\, click here to register: https://foreverafterart.com/contact/ \nAbout Lauren: \nI have been in the beauty industry for over 17 years. I love everything about the industry and it has been a dream come true to finally open my own salon. Continuing education in the beauty field is the most important thing for me. I am dedicated to my craft and constantly going to classes to learn new things and perfect my craft. Some of my favorite classes were a three day hands on cutting class at the Sassoon Academy\, Razor Cutting at the Arrojo Academy\, and the many classes I have taken at the \nBumble and Bumble University in NYC. I have also taken color classes and balayage classes with some of the top names in the industry. One great experience I had was a five week hairstyling course in Milan\, Italy. I got the privilege to attend Fashion Week in Milan and style hair for one of the shows. My advice for my clients is to not shampoo your hair everyday. You can extend your style with Arrojo Re FINISH dry shampoo. My favorite part of being a hair stylist is to teach people how to style their own hair so they can look fabulous in between appointments! \n URL:https://www.unisonarts.org/event/hair-braiding-workshop-with-lauren/ LOCATION:Unison Arts Center\, 68 Mountain Rest Road\, New Paltz\, 12561\, United States CATEGORIES:Community,Events,Workshops & Classes ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.unisonarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/braiding-event.jpg GEO:41.7558174;-74.1083498 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Unison Arts Center 68 Mountain Rest Road New Paltz 12561 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=68 Mountain Rest Road:geo:-74.1083498,41.7558174 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20180603T170000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20180603T213000 DTSTAMP:20191214T165500 CREATED:20180416T182830Z LAST-MODIFIED:20180525T151406Z UID:4096-1528045200-1528061400@www.unisonarts.org SUMMARY:THE MAGIC OF UNISON–GALA FUNDRAISER DESCRIPTION:The Magic of Unison \nOn June 3rd we will be celebrating 43 years of The Magic of Unison Arts Center. Eco Materialism & Contemporary Art” . \n2 pm – Tour the outdoor art exhibition and meet the artists: \nThe public is invited to tour the outdoor sculptures\, installed on the grounds of the Unison Art Center\, created by thirty five distinguished Hudson Valley artists. Their innovative outdoor sculpture installations explore Eco Materialism\, the vanguard movement in art and philosophy that is the focus of a new book by Linda Weintraub. (Intellect Books\, 2018). \nThis exhibition is the initiative of SUNY New Paltz Visiting Lecturer Michael Asbill. It was organized in collaboration with students enrolled in his Collaborative Constructions course. \n3 pm. – Interactive Workshop: TRANS-ACTING WITH FIRE: AN ECO-MATERIAL INTERACTION conducted by Linda Weintraub. Participants are invited to engage in delicate interactions with the flame provided by an oversized match as a way of considering the need to replace the care-less burning of fuel with care-ful Earth stewardship. \n3:30 – Reception and Book-Signing. Author Linda Weintraub will sign copies of her newly published book. \n  \nMichael Asbill explains how these concepts are manifested in the exhibition: \n“The works produced for this exhibition are quite different from what you would typically encounter in an outdoor sculpture venue.  This quiet show features projects that blend into the natural landscape. Many of these projects are made from materials gathered from this site.  Some of the works in this show are process oriented. Relative to the duration of your visit\, the processes engaged here are slow. Through these works you will encounter decomposition\, fermentation\, germination\, and remediation.  Appreciating these works may require a viewer to recalibrate\, forgetting that they are here to observe and stand apart from these works\, and acknowledge that they are a part of this show\, this forest\, this field\, this planet.” \n Linda Weintraub comments: \n “Eco Materialism is an emerging movement that celebrates sensory interactions with the materials that account for life on Earth. This movement also revels in the engineered products that sustain contemporary lives\, and that are often taken for granted. Thus\, Eco Materialism directs attention to the physical environment that has been subsumed by the immaterial nature of digitized communications\, and the careless materialism of consumerism. In this manner\, its principles reverse the wasteful and neglectful behaviors that prevail in contemporary industrial societies. Thus\, Eco Materialism not only revives neglected sensory pleasures and psychological well-being; it establishes behavioral patterns that promote Earth stewardship.” \nThis vanguard movement has not only been acknowledged by my new book; it has served as the inspiration for thirty five artists who each interpreted its major premise – that humans are capable of enhancing the vitality of eco systems and their own well-being by joining\, instead of controlling\, the dynamic forces of the planet. \n Participating artists – WHAT’s NEXT? His new solo album\, “The Messenger” came out this past November. Rhett is a world renowned alt-country musician & front man of the popular Texas band the Old 97’s.\n\n\n“Rhett Miller was a folkie of sorts before co-launching country-punk-pop heroes Old ‘97s\, and befitting a Texan raised in country music’s cradle\, he’s got a knack for perfectly-turned lines. “Did I lose you at ‘I love you’?\,” he sings on his latest solo set\, as immaculately plainspoken as a Harlan Howard or pre-LSD Beatles song….Like his prior solo LPs (The Instigator\, The Dreamer\, The Believer\, The Traveler)\, The Messenger highlights Miller’s writing uncoupled from the speeding locomotive of the ‘97s\, and the vibe this time is especially reflective. “I Used To Write In Notebooks” is a Beatle-esque chronicle of time’s passage via technology and personal psychology; in similar spirit\, “Close Most of The Time” dissects life from age 17 to 29 via cars (including a white ’69 Ranchero that “almost ran”) and similarly dysfunctional relationships. It’s the unsparing sound of a dude of a certain age looking in the mirror\, and the fact the album is framed by first person mea-culpas titled “Total Disaster” and “Broken\,” respectively\, tells you all you need to know about what said dude sees. To his credit\, he owns every bit of it\, and as confessionals\, they’re so hooky and well-calibrated\, they feel like absolutions even when they don’t sell themselves as such. One imagines it’s been informed by years of therapy. If so\, the shrinks certainly earned their fees\, and Miller’s songwriting’s the richer for it.”\n–The Rolling Stone\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.rhettmiller.com/\n\n\n\n\n10% of proceeds will be donated to P.U.G.G:\n\n\nP.U.G.G (Pop-up Gallery Group)\, is an after school arts based work/study program in midtown Kingston. The structure of our class flows well for young children and is not too physically taxing for the adults. \nRegister Here: https://www.mhmusictogether.com/register.aspx \n URL:https://www.unisonarts.org/event/music-together/2019-01-25/ LOCATION:Unison Arts Center\, 68 Mountain Rest Road\, New Paltz\, 12561\, United States CATEGORIES:Childrens Programs,Community,Dance,Events,Workshops & Classes ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.unisonarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/music-together-event.jpg GEO:41.7558174;-74.1083498 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Unison Arts Center 68 Mountain Rest Road New Paltz 12561 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=68 Mountain Rest Road:geo:-74.1083498,41.7558174 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20190201T090000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20190201T140000 DTSTAMP:20191214T165500 CREATED:20190110T180323Z LAST-MODIFIED:20190110T180323Z UID:9812-1549011600-1549029600@www.unisonarts.org SUMMARY:MUSIC TOGETHER DESCRIPTION:There’s still some spots left for the Mixed-Age 11:15 AM–12 PM slot! The lovingly harmonic trio\, The Star Sisters\, will be opening for the Liana Gabel Band. Liana interweaves the depth and breadth of her experiences through melodies\, words\, and dance in a nexus of feeling supported by her musical influences which include jazz\, pop\, folk\, and indie rock. \nThrough her music\, Liana Gabel takes seemingly familiar stories\, themes\, and tropes about being human and transforms them into that which is profoundly unfamiliar and novel\, yet warm and comforting.  Her observations about the changing landscape of our relationships\, the country\, the world\, and her own life clearly inform her work as a singer\, songwriter\, guitarist\, and tap dancer. Liana interweaves the depth and breadth of her experiences through melodies\, words\, and dance in a nexus of feeling supported by her musical influences which include jazz\, pop\, folk\, and indie rock. Liana surprises listeners both by defying genre and embracing syncopations and vocals that are continually refreshing\, spritely\, and fun.  With her band\, the talented rock/folk/and jazz guitarist Micheal Hollis and soul flow drummer/bassist/vocalist Jeremy Boniello\, Liana encourages her listeners to search for the truth—whether it’s by spending time outside or by looking inside of their hearts. \nBorn and raised in Rochester New York\, Liana now makes her home in the Hudson River Valley\, lending her distinctive voice to the local music scene.  In addition fronting the Liana Gabel band\, Liana has appeared in a steady stream of projects—from the jazz quintet Liana and the Michaels\, to an EP of songs with songwriter Oscar Bilger\, to her role as a tap dancer with Artists Alliance against Violence and tap student of Brenda Buffalino. She has also been a member of the indie rock band Blue Museum.  Independently\, Liana has released two full length albums: Rest and Heal in 2013\, and Go Outside in 2017. \n\nThe Star Sisters\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFCuRTBQLNw\nThree divine Creatrixes have come together to conceive The Star Sisters. Each a remarkable song writer in her own right\, Ella Kondrat\, Liana Gabel and Madeleine Grace fuse seamlessly as a harmonic force of nature. Their sweet and intriguing harmonies over guitar and ukulele communicate the deep love rising from their undulating hearts. The Star Sisters are shepherds of new perspective\, offering healing opportunities to their audiences. Liana will be joined on the road by the Star Sisters for her 2018 Go Outside release tour.\n\n URL:https://www.unisonarts.org/event/liana-gabel-band/ LOCATION:68 Mountain Rest Road\, New Paltz\, NY\, 12561\, United States CATEGORIES:Community,Events,Music,Performance ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.unisonarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/liana-gabel.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20190210T110000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20190210T123000 DTSTAMP:20191214T165500 CREATED:20180321T143353Z LAST-MODIFIED:20190315T173205Z UID:8589-1549796400-1549801800@www.unisonarts.org SUMMARY:SPIRIT BROTHERS - Sunday Enchantment DESCRIPTION:The Spirit Brothers have returned to Unison to share their spirited singing\, poetry\, and music from many of the world’s sacred traditions … every second Sunday of the month! \nPlease join Joseph Jastrab (guitar)\, Ned Leavitt (harmonium)\, Robert Bard (bass)\, and Ev Mann (percussion) for an uplifting morning of community chanting as they offer devotional grooves that are at times ecstatic\, and at times entrancing and meditative. \nChants are sourced from many traditions including Hindu Kirtan\, Sufi\, African\, Native American\, Hebraic\, and Ancient Christian. \n$10 suggested donation \n URL:https://www.unisonarts.org/event/spirit-brothers-sunday-revelation-2-2018-05-13/2019-02-10/ LOCATION:Unison Arts Center\, 68 Mountain Rest Road\, New Paltz\, 12561\, United States CATEGORIES:Community,Events,Music,Performance ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.unisonarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/sprits-bros-event.jpg GEO:41.7558174;-74.1083498 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Unison Arts Center 68 Mountain Rest Road New Paltz 12561 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=68 Mountain Rest Road:geo:-74.1083498,41.7558174 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20190215T090000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20190215T140000 DTSTAMP:20191214T165500 CREATED:20190110T180323Z LAST-MODIFIED:20190110T180323Z UID:9814-1550221200-1550239200@www.unisonarts.org SUMMARY:MUSIC TOGETHER DESCRIPTION:There’s still some spots left for the Mixed-Age 11:15 AM–12 PM slot!
