Don’t miss “the coolest band ever”

According to their publicist, The Maestrosities have won renown the world over as the most exceptional musicians and extraordinary entertainers ever to have lived.  Wherever they go, they play to houses that are sold out both the night before and after they play.  Whenever they arrive, the people in the audience appear to be weeping for some reason.

If no one tells these clowns how stupid they are, they will continue to tour the world, making a stop at Unison on Saturday, June 1st, believing that they are, indeed, “The Coolest Band Ever!”  Inspiring resilience or obstinate mediocrity? You decide. In the meantime, just try arguing that it wouldn’t be pretty cool to hear Material Girl and I Want You Back  performed on tuba, ukulele, trumpet, accordion and spoons! Their belief is themselves is stronger than their musical ability. On the other hand, their musical ability is stronger than you would expect, and sometimes they get so excited they throw random objects through the air.

Tickets are $21 in advance ($17 for Unison members) and $25 at the door ($21 for members).  That is a small price to pay for seeing “The Coolest Band Ever!”

Volunteering is good for you

Winston Churchill QuoteHere are just a few of the reasons why people choose to volunteer:

  • to share a skill
  • to get to know a community
  • to have an impact
  • to learn something new
  • to feel good
  • to be part of a team
  • to make new friends
  • to donate your professional skills
  • to keep busy
  • for fun

Whatever your reason, we want to thank our volunteers for all that they do.  And for those who have been thinking about volunteering, what are you waiting for? Call Unison at 255-1559 and ask for Kitty.  You won’t regret it!

Water: Our most precious resource

full-glass-of-water-1Most of us don’t think about where our next glass of water will come from; we just assume it will always be there.  But fresh water, which is essential for healthy human communities, is becoming scarcer.

On Wednesday, May 15th, Andrew Faust, one of the Premier Permaculture teachers in North America, will offer a class entitled Ecological Water Systems:  Farms, Families and Communities, from 7-9pm.  This class will focus on ecological design solutions for multiple water issues. Students will explore designs for a range of applications and environments:  mountains, plains, deserts, temperate and tropical.

Specific topics will include: siting ponds, developing springs, gravity fed systems, solar pumps, cisterns, rainwater catchment, natural waste-water treatment, rain garden designs for bio-filtrations of runoff from parking lots and roadways, erosion control, stabilizing stream banks and more.

The cost is $15 for Unison members and $25 for non-members. You can pre-register for this class at www.unisonarts.org.
