Holed Up (Installation)

This exhibition comes out of an interest in the post-apocalyptic world as it's represented in film and literature. Through loose appropriation of the physical aesthetic of the zombie movie, the artist explores competing notions of optimistic anticipation and fear often associated with the end of civilization. Responding to the unique details and proportions of the Unison Water Street Market Gallery, Head stages an eccentric domestic frame for the presentation of related sculpture and works on paper.

Travis Head was born in 1980 in Portsmouth, Virginia. He received a liberal arts undergraduate education resulting in a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art from The University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA in 2002. Travis attended University of Iowa in Iowa City from 2005-2008 where he earned an MFA in Painting and Drawing, with a minor in Printmaking. He now lives in New Paltz, New York where he works as an artist assistant.

Head has exhibited nationally in group and solo shows, most recently in nearby Poughkeepsie presenting a selection of drawings and artist's books at Vassar College Art Library.
