Sameer Gupta played...The crowd roared its applause.
— The New York Times
NAMASKAR is a fresh and innovative approach to jazz and traditional Indian soul music. Indian-American percussionist and tabla player Sameer Gupta explores a personal fusion of modern jazz and ancient Indian music with help from Arun Ramamurthy on carnatic violin and Perry Wortman on acoustic bass. Tonight they will be joined by Neel Murgai on sitar as a special guest. Together, they combine compositions from the Indian Golden Era of Bollywood with North and South Indian ragas, and modern American jazz to craft an irresistibly beautiful artistic statement. Sameer Gupta creates a soaring blend of Indian and American music forms that has received thunderous applause at venues such as Winter Jazzfest 2011, Carnegie Hall Global Encounters and the Harlem Stage Family Series.
