Patrick Winfield

"Nature is my inspiration. In my work I strive to bring the apparent into view and work with a degree of improvisation, rendering the image as if it is balancing in between moments."

Patrick Winfield creates his large-scale grid compositions from pieces of Polaroid integral film. His visual language comprises figure studies, landscapes, still lives and a fusion of all three that combines straight photography with photogram (camera-less) techniques. The structure of the grid allows the work to remain anchored while letting the images move the viewer's eye in multiple directions. The representational pieces, such as landscapes and figures, are studies in perspective, but instead of a fixed perspective, it is a 'walking' perspective, a clustering of memories and visual images.
