Mandara
with Valerie Naranjo & Barry Olsen

"Delicate, intense, incantatory," The Washington Post

Valerie Dee Naranjo, percussionist on Saturday Night Live and Worldbeat "Percussionist of the Year", and Barry Olsen, trombonist, pianist, percussionist and composer, have created Mandara, a multi-instrumental/vocal trio dedicated to the spirit of music as a unifying force in the world. Combining traditional instruments from Ghana, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast with western instruments such as trombone and keyboards, Mandara will explore the African roots of American music. The group has recently performed at Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center, on tour in Japan and at festivals in Europe, Africa and Mexico.
