Makoto Nakura
Bach to the Future: Classical Marimba Master at Unison

Although high-powered technique is one thing, what makes Nakura something special is the staggeringly wide range of nuance and color that commands from his collection of mallets. L.A. Times

Even though Bach didn't write any pieces for marimba, Makota Nakura has devoted much of his career to transcribing Bach's works for organ, violin, cello, flute, lute and keyboard because … well because he loves Bach and he loves the marimba. His artistry and astonishing virtuosity have been mesmerizing audiences for decades in venues such as NY Chamber Symphony, the Chicago Sinfonietta, LA Chamber Orchestra; Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and Spoleto Festival. He plays jazz, too.
