Lisa Gutkin — Celtic & Klezmer
Lisa Gutkin
D. Escobedo
with Pete Rushefsky & Remy Yulzari

... one hot fiddler Cyndi Lauper

Unison is happy to welcome the versatile fiddler/composer/singer/songwriter Lisa Gutkin for an evening of Celtic and Klezmer music.

Born in Brooklyn to a musical family, Lisa's early memories of sitting under the piano while her grandmother played, and of folk dancing with her mother, have shaped her career. Lisa is perhaps best known as a member of the Grammy Award winning Klezmatics and the downtown-Celtic group, Whirligig.

Lisa has extensive music credits to her name, but perhaps her most highly acclaimed composition is "Gonna Get Through This World," her first published song, written in 2003 to Woody Guthrie's lyrics. It has been covered by several singer/songwriters, used by dance companies, arranged for chorus and appeared on the 2006 Grammy Award winning album Wonder Wheel. Of the song, Pete Seeger said, "'Gonna Get Through This World' is a piece of genius."

Joining Lisa will be Pete Rushefsky, a leading performer of the klezmer tsimbl (hammered dulcimer/cimbalom) and Remy Yulzari, an acclaimed double bassist, currently in residence at Juilliard.
