Half Life
Half Life
by John Mighton, performed by Mohonk Mountain Stage

"If you like theatre, don't miss it. And that goes double if you hate it, because Half Life is that all too infrequent play capable of winning new converts for the fragile art of live drama" Montreal Gazette

Can the heart remember what the mind has forgotten?

This elegantly constructed play is a gentle and humourous exploration of how vital and filled with yearning people are as they get older and how indifferently we relate to them. Mathematician and playwright, John Mighton creates a touching and comical story of the power of love to invigorate every human — no matter how old. Half Life portrays the relationship of an elderly man and woman in a nursing home, and the way this relationship affects their respective middle-aged son and daughter — a Romeo and Juliet for seniors. It considers how memory loss associated with Alzheimer's disease redefines character and identity.

What makes Half Life so precious for both audiences and the company producing it is the quality of writing and the life experience that John Mighton brings to it. A philosopher and mathematician first, Mighton is able to share with audiences the profound questions he has pondered about the nature of the human mind, memory, and what remains of our "souls" when memory starts to fade away.

Half Life is the WINNER of
