Sundad: A Blend of World Fusion & New Age

Highly acclaimed world-class instrumental world fusion group, Sundad.

Sundad, is comprised of father and son guitarists, John Eurell Sr.and John Jr. Often joined by Bassist Kendall Buchanan and Drummer Abe Speller. They are making their name as one of a new class of acoustic acts whose compositions and live performances are filled with beautiful rhythms, harmonies, and chord changes.

Their original repertoire consists of acoustic guitar instrumentals that have been described as a blend of "World Fusion and New Age" music. The group is based in Connecticut and the NY Hudson Valley area.

Sundad’s 1st CD, Journey To Eternity earned them significant acclaim, including Best New Artist and Best Acoustic Instrumental Album nominations from Zone Music Reporter and a 1st round Grammy Nomination for Best Contemporary World album.

Hitting the New Age radio spin charts at #3 it remained in the Top 50 for 6 straight months with airplay across the U.S. and Internationally. The 1st track, "Open Sesame", was featured on NPR's "All Songs Considered: Open Mic" and was voted All-Time Best Guitars in the World Fusion category on garageband.com.

Sundad’s next CD, The Journey Continues, brought even greater notice for the group. It hit the Zone Music Reporter airplay charts at #3, remained in the Top 100 for 7 of the next 8 months and ended up at #13 for the year. In addition it received a nomination for Best Instrumental Acoustic Album by NAR and a 1st round Grammy nomination for Best POP Instrumental Album. It has and still is receiving airplay on radio stations around the world that are undoubtedly responding to Sundad’s spicy international flavors. The track, “Chets Favorite”, placed in the Top 40 Most Played Songs for 13 weeks (including 2 weeks at #1) on Sirius/XM Satellite “Spa 73” and Sundad placed in the Top 40 Most Played Artists there for 12 straight weeks. Three of the tracks from the album made it all the way to the semi-finals of the International Songwriting Competition in the Instrumental Category.

About the musicians

JOHN EURELL, SR. - Guitarist

John Eurell Sr. has been playing the guitar for over 40 years. His musical experience includes rock, blues, funk, disco, and jazz and his unique style of playing and composing comes from a combination of all those genres. John Sr has studied guitar with Sonny Sharrock, Alan Hanlon, Bucky Pizzarelli and George Barnes.

JOHN EURELL, JR. -- Guitarist

John Eurell Jr. the son of John Sr. attended many of his father’s gigs starting at a very early age. He has been playing the guitar for over 20 years. His musical experience includes hard rock, blues, funk, jazz and fusion. He was heavily influenced by such fusion guitarists as John McLaughlin and Bill Connors, among others. John Jr. studied guitar with his father, as well as guitarists David Snider and Lou Ubriaco.

KENDALL BUCHANAN -- Bass

Born in Ossining, NY, Kendall studied at Jazz Mobil program Harlem, NY. As a member of the Urban Arts Corp Musicians, he performed in the Broadway Production of Vinnette Carol's "When Hell Freezes Over I'll Skate". A long time member of The Sonny Sharrock Band, he has also performed with Jazz Violinist Master John Blair, Saxophonist Ray Blue, Do wop Legends Lee Andrews & the Hearts, Vanilla fudge's Vince Martell, Jimi Hendrix percussionist Juma Sultan and R&B vocalist Porter Carroll Jr.

ABE SPELLER -- Drums & Percussion

Abe Speller has been performing, touring and recording in the US and Europe for the past 40 yrs with artists such as Chuck Berry, Phoebe Snow, Pat Benetar, Steve Forbert, Lonnie Liston Smith, long-time Steely Dan guitarist Jon Herington, Jazz guitar great the late Sonny Sharrock and trumpeter Tom brown. With Sundad, Abe uses crystal clear cymbal work to offset the influence of African and Middle Eastern hand drum rhythms.
